26_102 Ehrenberg, Ariz. 270 ft. ---------- Evergreen spp. - Olney tesota. Mr. Baggs says: "Leaves fall in June and then the flowers come. The upper part of the tree will be bare and the lower part leafy. The upper part will flower and then the leaves fall & new leaves come" Deciduous sp. Prosopis glandulosa " pubescens Fouquieria splendens. Engelm. Acacia greggii Gray. Ocotillo -- it may flower 2 or 3 times a season. It flowers when there are rains, and remains dormant during the dry periods. It gets leafy at once after rain & its leaves pass away quickly. |
26_103 30 Oct. 1912. ---------- - The best desert house made of native materials is the Cottonwood frame with adobe fillings. The standards, plates, rafters, etc are Cottonwood. Then a sort of willow lath is put in both sides, split willow with the flat side out in the best houses, this put in for about 2 feet and then filled with mud & tamped in. The rafters are covered with Arrow-weed and then laid over with adobe, or better than Arrow-weed is Tule if it can be had. The Arrow-weed is commonly used to form a second or sun-shelter roof above the first roof. ---------- No. 5250 Cont. Upper lip of corolla deeply notched. Middle lobe of lower lip strongly developed at end into a bowl-shaped sac, the base of the lobe abruptly retrocurved in such a way as to make a sharp ridge transversely just on margin of sac. Upper pair of stamens with hairy fils, lower pair nearly glab. Style glabrous. |
