this grove. The trees are large and tall but not a truck fit for timber to make boards, leaning, branched or crooked.
The cherry orchard is extensive. The first trees planted on the place were obtained by Bidwell from Los Angeles. He madethe trip personally on horseback, there and return! securing his stock from one of the mission establishments.

nuts. [chesnuts] Some trees in full bloom presented a magnificent spectacle.
- Italian Cypress. Of these General Bidwell was very fond. He planted a lot of them. The snow bore down some of the limbs in the top and they don't go back. They never will go back says Mrs. Royce when snow has borne them down.
- Black walnut California, the General planted three or four miles up Chico Creek.
