- Earthquake, effect on trees, Douglas Fir trees along the rift that were thrown down were 90 to 125 ft. high and 2 to 3 ft. in diameter. Just 1/4 mile south of Shafter place, where the rift runs on to the side of a low hill.

- M. S. Baker says: I think of Cupressus bakeri as a tree, not a shrub. A great fire came off of Mt. Hood _ in May. The country was green but a heavy north wind was blowing, so heavy as to carry fire down hill through green chaparral. Fire was carried through the air a great distance; Douglas Fir cones were blown across the valley two miles and setfire to the country. - Sept, 13, 1910.
