A_o Nuevo Ck, Waddell Ck of the Waddel, a stream which here breaks sharply and narrowly the continuity of the range lying against the ocean. The pines reappear on the south wall of the Waddell ca_on and continue south for 1 1/2 miles the crossing the ridge and descending half-way (or perhaps a little more) to the floor of Scott Valley ca_on. After they cross the ridge and get down a little distance they are associated with Redwood and with Madrona. Probably not elsewhere is Monterey Pine asociated with Madrona, and certainly not elsewhere

These leafy trees were in pointed contrast to the trees seen a few days ago in the Benicia Hills facing the Suisun marshes, stark naked like skeletons. - Beach plants at A_o Nuevo Beach near mouth of Waddell Ck - Cakile edentula - Mesembryanthemum aequilat. - Abronia umbellata (purple fl.) This whole coast line is cut crosswise by sharp ca_ons or ca_adas. Between Little Butano and Gazos creeks one walks across a flat between the hills and within 10 ft. suddenly come upon a farmstead of half a dozen buildings lying in a canada that we not only did not see across the plain but did not suspect its existence.
