- Umbellularia californica. F. W. Wright says: We used the wood for sled-runners in making sleds for sledding wood down hill in Monterey County, because the wood is so hard.
- Quercus lobata, falling limbs. Wright says limbs often fall and kill people, that he had a great oak in his yard at Calistoga which for that reason he took out, that one of a party of women near Middleton was killed by a falling limb, the rest of the party ran but she hesitated a moment and was lost. Mt. Tamalpais.
Mt. Tamalpais trip with Summer School students: - July 23.
- Castanopsis chrysophylla var minor. Fruits rather large but not hardened. Lobes of involucre very long and narrow, the lobes 3, sometimes a very small 4th or 5th lobe. The lobes seemed to me remarkabley long and narrow, but they may widen before maturity.
- Stenotus linearifolius. It is called Indian Broom says Mrs. Bogan of Tuscon Ariz., the natives using the broom-like tops. The name is very appropriate but am not sure she has the same
