21_114 Lassen Peak Shasta Co. The spreading base of the Mt. proper, lying above or on a level with lateral ranges is covered with a forest of Tsuga mertensiana pure at this altitude. It forms timber but there are a few trees of Pinus albicaulis just at timber line, i.e. where the forest ends, but they extend in a few scattered colonies above this point forming low mats on the side of the peak itself up to nearly 10,000 ft. - magnificent view of Shasta from summit, Salmon Alps, Weaverville Butte, North Yallo Bally, Mt.
