21_10 Cypress Point branch into a crown portion of some size and its weight resulting in board buttressing at the angles. - At Cypress Point the forest is receding from the point and skeleton trees lie everywhere over the little plateau. The buttress angles prevent their speedy decay since the logs do not lie along the ground their whole length but are held off it more or less. |
21_11 Jan. 8, 1910. - Cypress, Monterey. There are fine trees at Cypress Pt. proper, the finest and largest. The larges trees measured by me stood very near the Point. Their measurements were as follows: Height Circ. at 4 /12 ft. No. 1 ----50 ft.------16 ft., 5 in. No. 2-----65 ft. -----20 ft. - Cupressus macrocarpa. Nearly everywhere on the inside or inner margin of the Cypress Point - Pesdcadero Point grove the Monterey Pine is pressing on it, its aggressive seedling developing into a dense forest.
