Tomki, Traveler's Home, S. Eel River, Sanhedrin [Pass, Eden Valley, Middle
Eel, Henley's] Ranch in Round [Valley, July 18-22, 1897]

July 18-- Passed Traveler's Home and S. Fork of Eel (Whelan's).
Lunched at summit of Sanhedrin Pass. Passed through Eden Valley. Ascenedd another big ridge and dropped down to Eel River and camped all night. No hay for the horses.

July 19. Monday.
Started up to the top of next ridge. Killed a rattlesnake at top of ridge with the shotgun. Frightened the team out of their skins;
they jumped and left the wagon behind.

are: - Digger Pine, Blue Oak, Kellogg Oak, Rhamnus Californica, Ceanothus cuneatus, Quercus dumosa bullata.
- Cottonwood on the Eel.
- Big-leaf Maple all along.
- Camped at Henley's Ranch.

- Alonzo Duane, 3 1/2 mi from Covelo, 2 mi east, then north, "Squaw Man"
- Madrona, on grade Potter to Eden Valley, 8 ft. 6 in., 45 ft. high, about 15 ft. straight and clear. (Arbutus menziesii Ph.)
- Quercus chrysolepis near preceding.
