Hazel Green to Yosemite
5665 ft. July 5. July 7-12.

of a young fellow from Coulterville who was driving a party to Hazel Green. Billy followed his horses up the hill. Then we went down hill and when we began the ascent to Hazel Green he balked again after being watered at a wayside trough. This was an error of judgment as we had been starving him with the idea of getting him to the end of the two miles before breaking his thirst. I went up to Hazel Green and got a packsaddle. Young fellow there came back with me and we tried the horse again and made him start with half a load. I came back from Hazel Green with an empty wagon and we took up the rest of the load.
