1_83 July 1, 1896. cont. from p. 82 -- of the plains begins not far from the river and the soil grows high grain. At the end of the above road we turned to the left, i.e., north, and struck the Sonora road, running across country diagonally, just above Atlanta post office. Crossed at length the San Francisco and San Joaquin Valley R.R. at a station of which I did not discover the name. Camped that night at Burnett, within 2 mi. of Oakdale. - June 28.
