[On one of my old collecting sheets, Phacelia heterophylla var. imbricata or patula, I find the locality notation: "Lower San Joaquin. On long east section lone road." Between Banta and Oakdale there was not a village or town on this road, scarcely even a house in sight. Now it is lined with villages, towns and green farms. -- Oct. 18, 1924.]
The San Joaquin Bridge is at or near the old Moss Ferry over the river. After passing the ferry, the road runs north-east a short distance, then takes up the due east direction along the section lines. The present Mossdale School (of topographic map) is near the old Moss Ferry. Name Mossdale probably derived from the ferry.
