Botanized along the Truckee River and the next day went with Hillman, botanist at the Nevada State University to Dog Valley Aug. 26, just over the California state line.
Aug. 27 Tecoma, Terrace [?] = Eastern Nevada.
- August 28, Salt Lake City.
Botanized about Fort Douglas. Called on Jones but he was not in. He called at my hotel. Said that he was soon to be independently rich from the revenue of his mine and would then devote all his time

to botany, Jones is about 5 ft. 6 in., full beard, blue eye, and has a voice which is somewhat peculiar -- but not decidedly peculiar. He had not a good word for anyone from Robinson to Greene -- although he did not speak unkindly of the Brandegees. B.L. Robinson told me that Jones was formerly a Presbyterian clergyman. He looked it -- that is I mean something like a poor type of minister.
