Trip to Cornell University

Feb. 19. 1895. Left Berkeley for Vacaville
Feb. 27, 1895. Arrived at Ithaca, N.Y.
July. 1895. New York and Washington.
Aug. 1895. Washington to Toronto to Vancouver to San Francisco.

- A brief account of my stay at Cornell is in Men & Manners, vol. 6, p. 150 (my private journal).
- A brief reminiscience of my trip to Columbia College from Cornell is in Men & Manners, vol. 7, p. 82. It was at this time, while at Columbia College, I met John K. Small for the first time. One of the topics he brought up was the emancipation of J.N. Rose by J.M. Coulter. These two were co-authors. Small said he had suggested to Coulter that Rose's enslavement should end but Coulter quietly replied that it were better to keep up the old association. Rose, it was thought, did all the work.

- Pacheco Pass, Plane trees leaves now falling, June 6, along the stream near entrance to Pacheco Pass. The leaves color more or less, the lobes curl up, and then they fall, with the concave side up, the covex side down, striking the water and sailing along like a boat or strikingly like a gndola in some cases.
