Vaca Mountains -- 1893.
This ridge with its easterly subordinate chain has been subject to periodic fire ravage for many centuries. The chaparral formation has in consequence steadily increased its area at the expense of the open woodland (Quercus wislizenii - douglasii - Pinus sabiniana association.).
To what extent is the above true in the light of recent years?
