Vacaville, Dec. 26, 1899.

- Quercus lobata in full foliage still, the leaves just falling from the tree at Little Oak. The only expression of lightness or color that I ever observed about this sober stately tree I saw today: the tree at Williams', one of the largest ones, stood out on an afternoon against the dark background of the Jewett grove of Eucalyptus -- almost golden in the cold afternoon light of the winter sun!!!

Apples -- Watsonville, _150 to _300 per acre for fruit (owner to till and prune only). Marketed after other apples have disappeared -- keeping qualities -- F. A. Hermann.
