1_148 Red Bluff - Baeria sp. - Lupinus micranthus. - Lotus subpinnatus - Eriophyllum speciosum Greene. - Salix sp. - Trifolium amplectens T. & G. - [Wimmeshaw is plainly so spelled on the field cover of Phacelia distans as written in the field. I do not now recall whether the name represents a valley or gulch or creek or settlement. -- W.L.J. 4-27-'39 [I went out to Crane Creek with a Mr. H.F. Stivers, brother of Lieut. Stivers, U.S.A., who collected Lupinus Stiversi Kellogg. The Stivers Ranch is on Crane Creek and not far from the Rosewood P.O. Young Stivers took me up to the Greasewood Hills west via Dry Creek. |
1_149 [Tehama Co.] Apr. 30, 1899. Salt Creek, Winneshaw. Cold Fork Cottonwood Creek, Salt Gulch, Greasewood Hills and return to Rosewood. This was Apr. 27-28. On Apr. 29 I went back to Red Bluff via South Fork Cottonwood Creek, Manzanita Flat and Dibble Creek. On the night of Apr. 27 we stopped at Stephenson's Ranch, a little settlement; this was Cold Fork Cottonwood Creek . -- Lieutenant Stivers' initials, according to Proc. Cal. Acad. vol. 2, p. vii, are "Charles H." In this volume Kellogg published his Lupinus Stiverii after Mr. Stivers; see p. 192. [Stivers is a rather uncommon name, I should say.
