- Blue oak in winter condition, on road up mt., below Conn Valley forks, its gnarled branches and squat appearance. - Christmas Berry, on hill above Bell Valley, the setting sun illumined the bushes which were very fine, some bushes less leafy and the bunches very large and red. - Madrone crowning the topmost hill above Toland House -- the sun on its chocolate branches. - South of Angwin's to Echo Pt. a fine forest of Yellow Pine, (some 110 ft. h.) and Douglas Firs all of 15 ft. circ (perhaps 20).

- Jan. 4. Sanitarium to Angwin's Meadows. Slopes above Sanitarium: Brush of Adenostoma mainly, here Digger Pine also. Also Baccharis, Manzanita, (Arc. Manzanita), Scrub Quercus Wislizenii, occasional Pinus ponderosa, Pellaea andromedifolia and Diplacus. - Jan. 7. Howell Mt. & Echo Pt. - Pinus ponderosa, Angwin's Meadows, 11 1/2 ft. girth at 4 ft. from ground. 70 ft. high. - Douglas Fir, 14 1/2 ft. circ. at 4 ft. - South of Angwin's Meadows towards the Hess place (Echo Pt.) a fine forest of Pinus ponderosa and Douglas Fir Trees of ponderosa = 100 ft. high.
