- Ceanothus incanus, common at summit between Sherwood Home and Alpine. This is about 3000 ft. alt.
- A stage passenger says he has "tried everything for Poison Oak, Grindelia, etc and finally bathed his wrist, the affected part, in hot water to open the pores and then put on antiphlogistine. He has had no more trouble.

coast north and south. The eye sweeps 600,000 acres of Redwood and Douglas Fir timber, the most vast body of timber anywhere in the world to be seen from a single point. Southward ridge after ridge blue with timber fills the basins of the Noyo and Navarro rivers and extends eastward to the summits of the Coast Range. The eye's vision is bounded on the south by the Navarro Ridge which ends in Signal Peak, a landmark in that country. Northward the
