nanism the same as Cupressus Goveniana on the Mendocino Coast. The branchlets are terete
- Quercus dumosa bullata, 2 to 4 ft. h.
- Arctostaphylos Manzanita 1 to 5 ft. h.
- Ceanothus pinetorum but not fruiting or only sparingly. At West Spring fruiting well. = C. jepsonii Greene!!
- The above the only shrubs on Red Mountain which is very destitute of vegetation as to variety.

- Fritillaria coccinea -- grows in abundance on the rocky chaparral slope. Purdy remarks that its differences with recurva are not great; difference in height (taller), its red instead of orange flowers, and in its bulbs, and also narrower flowers. Its differences due to the special soil conditions. When Greene took it up as a species Purdy wrote and told him what he knew about the differences. Green published the letter whereupon Mrs. Brandegee sent Purdy an envelope merely enclosing a clipping
