18_150 St. Helena. May 23. it may have been brought in by wild pigeons. He noticed the pigeons in a Blue Oak tree out of season a good many times and the plant was found at this spot. It is the Salad or Garden-Burnet of cultivation. No. 3008. Umbellifer. Mrs. D.O. Hunt's yard. - Mrs. Hunt says: Anagallis arvensis at Vallejo all blue-flowered. |
18_151 Berkeley, June 8, 1908. - E.P. Sheldon of Portland, Ore. came in today. On a vacation (from the lumber business) which he is to spend botanizing in Lassen and Modoc. He says: Pinus ponderosa has a var. in the Williamette Valley, which is long limbed to ground and in consequence does not make good logs but is all sapwood! (He calls it var. Benthamiana) Pinus Coulteri, he insists this is at or near Merlin, s. Oregon and is not Pinus Sabiniana. M.W. Gorman was a bookkeeper for years in Portland. Kept books for the Lumber Manuf.
