18_132 Gilroy Valley, Mar. 6, '08 quantities of Poplars, very striking with their white branches, in the river bottom of the Pajaro River. They form a narrow grove or line for several miles. Must be Populus trichocarpa. In the Gilroy Valley are many fine trees of Quercus agrifolia. Many of them, especially in open situations, show weeping characteristics. They (the oaks) are being cut down for cordwood on a rather extensive scale. |
18_133 Berkeley, Mar. 14, '08 - Mr. H.A. Greene of Monterey who is forming tree planting clubs all over California, especially in the schools, and whose interests seem to be branching out as far as Pennsylvania and Illinois, came in to call yesterday afternoon and talked like a streak for three mortal hours on 15 minutes worth of matter.
