18_124 Cypress Point to Monterey Cypress Its Form. Form of the tree little affected by winds save as mechanical stress. At Point Lobos two trees stand side by side. One is a young tree but tall, with slender pointed pyramind-like crown, showing no effects of wind whatsoever. 18_125 Pacific Grove, Mar 6, 1908 one finds the regularly symmetrical pyramidal individuals. In sheltered woods at Cypress Point I noticed two trees in company of Monterey Pine, remarkable for their open crown, finger-pointed branches, and narrow-pyramidal outline. They were 50 ft. high, and 14 and 15 inches diameter respectively at 2 feet above the ground. Another tree with less open crown but equally symmetrical was 80 feet high and 2 1/4 ft. diam. at 2 feet above the ground. |
