Cypress Point to

- Monterey Cypress tree, 15 ft. 8 in. circ. at 4 ft., 65 ft. high, first tall tree met with coming from Pebble Beach. Buttressed.
- Bark of Monterey Cypress
Grayish brown, roughly fissurred into interlocking ribbon-like strips of varying breadth. On young trees reddish brown, the ribbons superficial.

The second tree had a circumference of 16 feet at the ground.

Old Trees with Flat Hat-like Crowns -- Monterey Cypress.
These are a striking feature of the groves most exposed to the strength of the winds. Their characteristic is the close compact nature of the small crown. The weave of the branchlets in these green hats is very close as often shown by the tiers or layers of branchlets below which have been killed out.
