18_103 San Juan Bautista March 3, '08 - Went down to the Fremont Celebration at San Juan Bautista. Changed from S.P. at Chittenden to San Juan-Pacific, and met its most distinguished official Mark Reagan, remarkable for his flow of language, his knowledge of the country hereabouts, its history and its lore and his power to give a dramatic setting to his stories about it. Pacheco Peak? Yes that was named after a Peruvian Indian. Mexican Government after the War of Independence owed him large sums of money and paid him in lands in California.
