more clear stuff there is, since a tree when small has limbs and these show as knots towards centre on base cuts. Yellow Pine runs 160 to 180 feet. White Fir is cut but is not sent out in any quantity being mostly used for shoots and cribbing. Trestles here will be on an average 25 feet high and 1/4 mile long, sometimes they are 100 feet high. All this is built up with White Fir and Incense Cedar, as far as they can since they want to save the pine. The hardest pine I know is Oregon Pine or Douglas Fir. It is a fine timber.

-Yellow Pine. Diam=2 ft. 7 in. 211 years old. Heart=48 years, 6 in!
-Sugar Pine. Diam=3 ft. 11 in. at 1 1/2 ft. 399 years old. Sap=4 in. at:
100 years radius = 6 in.
200 years radius = 1 ft. 3 1/4 in.
300 years radius = 1 ft. 10 in.
399 years radius = 2 ft. 3 1/2 in.
-Yellow Pine. In note at top of page, add that the heart makes but a small volume of the trunk, about 1/7 of the wood volume.
-Sugar Pine, diam=3 ft. 8 in. Rings=235. Sap=5 in., rings =60.
100 years was 8 in. radius
200 years was 1 ft. 8 in. radius
235 years was 1 ft. 10 1/2 in. radius
Three feet above ground.
