No Pinus Sabiniana to be seen at all.
Hopping says blasting mountain roads kills Sugar Pine a few feet away. Young Sugar Pine is even killed by the jarring of wagons and stage coaches where a tree stands only a few feet from the road in a curve. He says all road workmen recognize this fact.

resembling lower petals, perhaps better petalody. Flowers pale lilac. Dunlap.
The foothills at this altitude are beautiful just now. We camped in a little flat with swelling knolls divided by little swales studded all about with Blue Oak and Manzanita and carpeted with white flowers.
