Mt. Diablo [Apr. 26, 1907]

Pinus Coulteri. This is not on the side hills anywhere about Deer Flat. From Deer Flat we worked into every canyon eastward on the basin of Mitchell Creek. It was a hard long pull, working our way over spurs, through brush, and across canyons. Extensive burning out a year or so previously made it a little easier. Of course I did not examine every pine tree in the basin but I saw no pine tree that did not even at a distance look like Digger Pine. Worked as far eastward as the divide looking down into the creek heading in towards North Peak, i.e. Donner Creek.
