17_14 San Francisco. Apr. 21, 1907. No. 2639. Lupinus nanus Dougl. This is very distinct from L. nanus as the two grow together at Ingleside. The corolla is a pale lavender (drying the ordinary blue!) The upper calyx tooth is not merely cleft but the lobes are divergent in a curious way that is striking as compared with L. nanus. cont. from p. 34 seq. Wartham is the correct name for the post office and settlement and so spelled on U.S. Portal Map, 1889 and in A.B.C. Guide for 1895. 9 miles from Alcalde. The creek is spelled Waltham on U.S. topographic map (Coalinga) and Cal. Auto. Assoc. map, but Wartham on U.S. Postal Map above noted. |

Diablo Apr. 26, 1907 Trees and Shrubs, Mitchell Canyon Basin -Acer macrophyllum, frequent in or towards bottom of all the canyons. -Umbellularia Californica, common. -Ptelea trifoliata, well distributed. Male and female flowers on separate bushes, with complimentary vestiges in each. Parts in five except gynoecium. No. 2648. -Quercus wislizenii, scrub on mt. -Heteromeles arbutifolia. Ceanothus sorediatus, in fl. [flower]. 15 feet high, several stems from base usually. No. 2645. -Quercus wislizenii, in lower part of Mitchell canyon. -No. 2640. Lewisia rediviva. Styles 7,7,8,6. Stamens 40 or 50, but not counted exactly. Petals 13, 14, 15, 13. Sepals 6,7,7,7. |
