Chateau Frontenac How much will it be? One dollar apiece. We'll give you a dollar. No, said he, One and one-half. We'll walk, said we and started off. Come back! yelled "Cabby." Through the narrow streets, past old houses with french and English signs, Ursuline Convent, Bishop's Palace, Basilica Church, then chapel in back of Ursuline Convent, both richly decorated, the latter more so. Then to the Chateau Frontenac (a splendid modern hotel on the terrace overlooking the Quebec River); from here is a splendid view over river, city. One can also see the

citadel, and behind this a mile is the plain of Abraham. Noted Montcalm's statue. Then we went back to boat, just in time to board her. All the way up the river to Montreal large picturesque churches occupy the prominent headlands; they are always Roman Catholic.
It is a pretty trip. Montreal is an old city which is becoming very modern in spots. The residence portion of the city is handsome. The Allan residence ("Allan Line") was pointed out to me, solid and imposing but not handsome Three-fourths of city is French.
