- Atriplex polycarpa. Grinnell shows me a scrap of a plant from Los Banos which must be this species. Could not be A. lentiformis. Might be A. torreyi but I have seen no torreyi (genuine from San Joaquin. All S. J. material looks more like or is lentiformis.

Daniel in Trav. Sci. Univ. Rennes, [Travaux scientifiques de l'Universite de Rennes] 5 (1906), No. 2, pp. 81-98 gives the cause of teratological forms. The factors considered include the effect of over-nutrition, pruning, mutilation, and other means of disturbing the equilibrium of plants, as shown by their subsequent development. His article is on the Experimental Production of Plant Monstrosities.
