No. 1. 45 ft. h. bark very rough, black, deeply fissured, spreading branches and branchlets very twiggy but branchlets straight or nearly so and at angle of 45 degrees. Top of tree red by reason of seasons branchlets. Buds small, red, pointed
No. 2. 40 ft. h. branchlets ascending incurved, rarely straight. Angle of branching throughout tree as a rule strikingly less than in No. 1. Top of tree yellow. Leaves

hang longer in top than in No. 1. Buds large, yellow, blunt, wooly on back.
No. 3. Small tree, smooth bark, 15 ft. h. or 20? bush or rather shrub as to status. Buds very small, blunt. Twigs very angular in top.
No. 4. Same size, about 30 yds. farther north, branchlets long and straight
