- Abrams, L.R. called to Stanford this Sept. as Assistant Professor of Botany. Dudley is on leave this year.
- Re. return of Galapagos Expedition. Expedition left in June, 1905 and got in last Thursday. Several notices in daily papers last few days. Stuart consulted me before going. Wrote me while there See file.
- Mr. Newman in Bot. 3 Class says Earthquake of Apr. 1906 exceedingly bad in Mattole Country. He says rainfall is greater there the elsewhere on California Coast.

- Cornus pubescens - foliage showy autumn colors, leaves colored blood-red mainly towards tips.
- Acer macrophyllum Pursh. Small trees in bottom of canyon show very vigorous shoots 3 to 6 ft. in season. Winter bark polished dark brown, showing scattered lenticels.
- Sambucus glauca Nutt. Burnt trees show season shoots 15 ft. long! But this species always shows disposition to be thickety.
- Acer macrophyllum. Many trees and especially tree clumps along West Branch San Pablo Creek as many as 38 in one cluster and 20 ft. high (average 3 in. diam. [diameter]) Saw no indubitable seedlings.
