There were a good many forlorn looking people going in both directons. After starting on again we were held up half-an-hour, an hour, at many stations. At 3:30 the next morning I got into Elmira, the junction for Vacaville, and played cribbage with a fireman while the night-operator ticked at his machine.
At Vacaville, where I arrived, at 10:30, I went straight to my mother whom I found pretty well. I was also given a genuine and enthusiastic welcome by Gonsalves the Portuguese,

Abie Beelard, the 'Dobie Rancher, Hoover, the railroad section hand, and Pe_a the Spanish-Mexican! All old-time settlers hereabouts whom I had known since a boy.
Introduced Plants in North Coast Ranges
- Centaurea solstitialis, now all over waste ground, roadsides, pastures at Vacaville. Came in 20 years ago.
- Plantago lanceolata, moist region, near coast, has become a first class pest in pasture lands on hills.
