but thick cyclinder like a meat block. In the top was a half-globe-like excavation. Two discs of a globe set upright on opposite side of the hollow were held in position by a bar which passed straight through and extended on each side so as to form a handle for man power or rather two handles, one on each side. The House of Panza was beautiful and tasteful and not too large for a young bride's house. The triangular Forum and a Doric Temple adjoined the Greek "Theatre". step through to the tiers of seats. The covered passages and rooms behind and near the stage made a very complicated "business". I liked the gladitorial square and its surrounding buildings. Then there was a small theatre near at hand which had a most enticing look. Then we passed up a broad thoroughfare running straight through the city to the House of the Vettii, and then is the outer gate, noting all manner of interesting things. Overhead was the spotless blue, flooded with warm sunshine, the snowy mountains sparkled, the great cone of Vesuvius lazily smoked, as if brooding over the city which it had once overthrown.
