15_86 Pompeii the frescoed walls. The paintings were in a remarkable state of preservation, some of the colors seeming as fresh as if laid on yesterday, while the figures, landscapes were faithfully and in a high degree artistically represented. Wonderful for its exquisite color and detail was a series of Cupids forming a low narrow frieze about the room: Cupids making urine, Cupids in a chariot race, etc. See Baedeker for detail. 15_87 Feb. 17, 1906. number of mills, the upper stone hour-glass shaped, the lower conic. These stones were all of the same pattern. The upper had a sort of aperture straight through the middle and a block like portion in relief at the end of the hole (the hole passing through it), another hole through the block at right angles to the main hole.
