material is better housed. He has a great lot of liquid material in good jars, especially rich in Java material which he has himself collected. He has written a paper on Java phalloidea, showing me a peculiar species with a free lace-ike veil about the stipe. A cucurbitaceous gourd, oblong-globose, about the size of the hat, had dehisced so as to be open on the whole top, showing the seeds which were flat with very broad white-membranaceous wings, very suggestive of Bignoniaceae.

city at 1:45. It seemed as if about 2/3 the distance were through tunnels, the line following the broken coast, which gave a good setting to the numerous towns and villages. Every bit of land was accounted for, the tops of bluffs being set with a garden altho it well nigh over-hung the sea. Then down into a flat country and on to Pisa. Stopped until 5:15, putting in the time in the town, with its fine old cathedral and great Campanile famous to us as the Leaning Tower.
