15_54 London to Paris I have said, I have said" That is Dyer. ---------- = Left London by London Southeastern and Chatham, Victoria Station, at 9:00 am. Had a smooth Channel passage. Paris at 4:45. West to Hotel Prince Albert. Had received a letter of introduction from my old college friend "Rich" ["Rick"?] Heermann to his uncle in Paris which I at once presented. He offered to take me around the next morning to the Jardin de Plantes. There I looked up two tyke (see 2 pp. ahead.). M. 15_55 Feb. 6, 1906. wall which he said was made by Josephine, first wife of the Emperor Napoleon, who had a great interest in botany and who was trained by some greeat French botanist of the period whose name has now slipped me. I had not been in Paris one half-hour before I readily realized that I was in the most interesting city in the world. Its richly dressed women, its fine-looking men, its elegant shops, broad streets, boulevards, squares and splendid public buildings -- la belle Paris! M.
