West to Hotel Prince Albert. Had received a letter of introduction from my old college friend "Rich" ["Rick"?] Heermann to his uncle in Paris which I at once presented. He offered to take me around the next morning to the Jardin de Plantes. There I looked up two tyke (see 2 pp. ahead.). M. I had not been in Paris one half-hour before I readily realized that I was in the most interesting city in the world. Its richly dressed women, its fine-looking men, its elegant shops, broad streets, boulevards, squares and splendid public buildings -- la belle Paris! M.
