= Botta, M.P.E. Mr. A.A. Eaton, who has kindly looked up the type of Godetia Bottae at the Jardin des Plantes, Paris, says one sheet is marked "Californie, Monterey, M.P.E. Botta, 1829."
= Dr. Henry tells me that Cryptomeria Japonica naturally layers in Japan, the sweeping ends of the branches taking root and forming other trees. Does not stump sprout. Says the Araucaria imbricata stump sprouts when cut down.

= Malacothrix Clevelandi Gray. Antioch, M.K. Curran, 1884. Achenes a trifle under 2 mm. long (1.8 mm). Heads numerous. Involucres 5 to 6 mm. high. Plant 4.5 dm. high. Branches numerous and from the base upwards but forming a rather close panicle. Stem reddish. Leaves mainly in a basal tuft. Also coll. at Drytown, Amador Co., Hansen, 401, June, '93, 1.1 cm. high, the many stems ascending from the base. Involucres 4 mm. high. Also Chalk Hill, Hall [?], 2087, 5000 ft. on San Jacinto Mt. southward into Lower California.
