first blush of your coming they may incline to wander. Any tendencies on their part to indulge the foolish prejudices and customs of grown-ups should be sternly repressed, at least where such habits interfere in the slightest with devotion to you. They must never be allowed to forget that you are the lodestar of their existence and that a striaght and narrow path leads to it. As a matter of discipline teach them that as the morning stars sing together so may lodestars at midnight! Your grandfather while inclined to frivolity and gayety you will readily teach to fetch and carry.

Still further do I admire your judgment in deciding to be a California girl. The California Girl! Product of that wondrous race which ever pressing westward, leaving behind the filth and disease and sordid narrowness of ancient cities, ever and again and still again straining eyes to the westward, ever and again dropping behind the dross of its humanity, shaken free of ugliness and deformity and hideous passions, its most marvelous offspring the California Girl! She stands in sunlit strength, the Daughter of the Yellow Sun, serene, confident and as beautiful as Victory!
