14_28 Linnaean Society saw in all my days a man use his fingers and hands in such wild gymnastics - always kept close to the body, pressing inwards as turned outwards, up and down, behind, front in a most curious contortionism. Dr. Scott is a pleasant man, however, and this failing belongs to his public speaking apparently. Met Mr. A. A. Eaton & Dr. Robert Greenleaf Leavitt, who are here with Mr. Oakes Ames from Massachusetts. They are working on orchids! Taking photographs of types! Mr. A. A. His "Tarweeds" are of the "Spiike-weed" section! Leavitt says the "Columbia College" or rather New York Garden people do not feel very kindly towards Professor Greene, particularly on account of his destroying types. It seems that Green said he destroyed certain things. This would generally appear incredible but I can, not only imagine his doing so but defending it on highly philosophical grounds.
