Kew Herbarum
of an Osage Orange branch!
- Lobb, Wm. Died S. F. autumn 1863. See Veitch's Man. Conif. (Manual of the Coniferae) p. 243. I notice that an extraordinary number of Lobb's spms. (specimens) in Herb. Kew are strange or odd forms of California plants and not collected since. Such is Ceanothus leucodermis Greene, Godetia Lobbii Jepson and many more. Coll. fine smps. of Leptodactylon Californicum H & A. in San Bernardino Mts.
- Ceanothus rigidus Nutt var. grandifolius Torr. First coll. by Bigelow in Pac. R. Rep. 4; 75. Trelease who has studied the original (he cites it in Syn. Fl. p 417) names Bolander's 4713 as representing this var. The

Bolander plant is here. It is exceedingly close if not identical with my C. purpurea. More nearly allied to C. Crassifolius!!

- Greene has gone through the Ceanothus here and corrected some of the labels. Its interesting to me to see how he picks out the striking or prevailing types, as for instance Lobb's spm leucodermis he calls it.
