14_112 Kew Herbarium possess at all. I doubt if I was acquainted with any specimen of C. serpyllifolius but the one in the Herbarium of the Acad. Nat. Sciences of Philadia [Philadelphia]. x x x x x Yours truly Thos Nuttall [Hooker Corr. vol. 64, p. 297] In this vol. are letters of Nuttall numbered from 284 to 325, i.e. from June 8, 1848 to Sept. 6, 1858. All "Nutgrove nr. Rainhill, i.e. near Liverpool. There are a few references to North America, to Dr. Short of Kentucky, etc. He remarks Gray's visit to England and is evidently hurt at Gray's not visiting him; he expresses pleasure at Emerson's visit; Oct. 19. 1857. 14_113 May 20, 1906. known in Boston. Torrey sent him "Contributions" which pleased him and he comments on the Darlingtonia (Sept. 29, 1853). The letters are mainly about Indian botany. His nephew T. J. Booth, a young botanist ahd gone to India and sent to his uncle specimens and seeds. Nuttall seems to have been cultivating Indian plants with great pleasure. Joseph Hooker was at the same time in India and these facts gave further interest to the two men, naturally, in their correspondence Rainhill nr.
