[Herb. Royal. Bot. Garden]
Edinburgh, Sept 6, 1905

Robert Brown's Plants of the British Columbia Expedition, a full but unnamed set are here in the Herbarium of the Royal Botanic Garden. Many spms [specimens] good, many scrappy. Many were new at the time of collection. They were collected chiefly at Barclay Sound, on Vancouver Island, Frazer River, Washington Terry, Banks of the Williamette, Ft. Vancouver.
I do not find his Quercus Oerstediana (original spms [specimens]) nor in fact any of his Calif. [California] plants except a few that would appear to be duplicates. Professor Balfour tells me that his son Robert Brown is a young scientific man (attended British Assoc. at Pretoria this year) and that he may know the whereabouts of Brown's herbarium if he had one.
