Eventually the cone Jeffrey brought suite against in order to withhold further payment of services. "Summons of Forthcoming Balfour and others, 1854. Copy for services on Dr. Balfour" is before me. It names Balfour, Chairman of the Assoc. [Association_, D. Smith, writer to the signet, Treas. [Treasurer] of the Assoc., Sir John Archibald Murray, Lord Murray, one of the Senators of the College of Justice, John Cunning. hame, lately: Sir David Dundas, Sir William Jardine, Sir William Gibson-Craig, and so on, nearly same as in list 6 pp. [pages] back.

Jeffrey is described as residing in San Francisco. The sum sued for is 700 pounds or such other sum or sums as may be owing; the legal phraseology runs on and other sums, interest, costs are named. It is dated Sept. 30, 1854.
