His "Abies Pattonii" was found on the Mt. Baker Range of mountains from 5000 feet up to the margin of perpetual snow:-150 feet in height, at highest elevations not more than 4 ft. height.
Another leaflet is dated Edinburgh, 16th of April, 1853. The cones and seeds were chiefly from N. [Northern] California:-
=Pinus (flexilis)(=albicaulis). Mt. Shasta, 8000 to 9000 feet. "At the upper part of its range not more than 3 feet high, of a tabular form, so compact that a person can walk along the top of the trees. Found growing on granite rocks where the soil is very scanty."

Pinus (=Murrayana of the Com's pub. list). "Siskiyou Mts. Elevation 7500 feet. Tree 40 feet high, 1 1/2 feet in diameter. Growing in moist soil near the summit of the mountain."
Pinus (=Balfouriana of the Com's pub. list.) Elevation 5000 to 8000 feet. Found on a range of mountains between Shasta and Scot's Valley. N. California. Leaves 2, 3, 4, 5 in a sheath, glaucous, triangular, 1 1/4 inch long. Cones cylindrical, smooth, produced at the points of the branches, generally singly. Branches pendulous and flexible. Bark smooth, of a reddish color. Timber white, tough and fine-grained. Tree 80 feet high by 3 in. [inches] diameter. Growing on volcanic
