St. Helena to Howell (Mountain, June 3, 1904) - Foothills - No. 2431. Clarkia purpurea ssp. quadrivulnera. Dry soil among dead or semi-dead grasses. No. 2432. Calochortus luteus Douglas = C. superbus Purdy. Petals with eye-spot = variety citrinus Watson No. 2433. Hypericum concinnum Bentham. Petals in full anthesis completely reflexed! Stamens spreading widely, the long styles strongly divaricate. Stamens in 3 very distinct clusters, united at base by an undivided portion. 25-30 stamens in each cluster. Sepals distinct. Petals minutely toothed at apex, the margin with scattered black gland-dots. No. 2434. Brodiaea. Stamens closely approximate by their anthers in centre; staminodia erect!! B. coronaria Jepson.

Madia sativa Molina All the above, 2431 to 2437, on lower slopes, dry grassy, 1 to 2 miles from Stone Bridge. No. 2438. Clarkia concinna Greene. On landslide. No. 2439. Pickenngia Montana Nuttall 8 feet high Stamens distinct! inserted on calyx-tube low down but distinctly perigynous!! Ovary stipitate, silvery with short fine white hairs. Banner with a yellow spot at base of blade. -Howell Mountain.
