St. Helena to Howell (Mountain, June 3, 1904)

No. 2431. Clarkia purpurea ssp. quadrivulnera. Dry soil among dead or semi-dead grasses.
No. 2432. Calochortus luteus Douglas = C. superbus Purdy. Petals with eye-spot = variety citrinus Watson
No. 2433. Hypericum concinnum Bentham. Petals in full anthesis completely reflexed! Stamens spreading widely, the long styles strongly divaricate. Stamens in 3 very distinct clusters, united at base by an undivided portion. 25-30 stamens in each cluster. Sepals distinct. Petals minutely toothed at apex, the margin with scattered black gland-dots.
No. 2434. Brodiaea. Stamens closely approximate by their anthers in centre; staminodia erect!! B. coronaria Jepson.

No. 2435. Douglas Oak. Trees 10 to 20 feet high, mostly diseased and hanging with grey "Spanish Moss."
No. 2436. Orthocarpus attenuatus Gray.

All the above, 2431 to 2437, on lower slopes, dry grassy, 1 to 2 miles from Stone Bridge.
No. 2438. Clarkia concinna Greene. On landslide.
No. 2439. Pickenngia Montana Nuttall 8 feet high
Stamens distinct! inserted on calyx-tube low down but distinctly perigynous!! Ovary stipitate, silvery with short fine white hairs. Banner with a yellow spot at base of blade. -Howell Mountain.
