10_80 Briceland - Samples of tanbark from single Tan Oak, tree in northerly hollow, 96 ft. high, 1 ft. 9 in. diam. at base. No. 37. At base of trunk, 1 7/8 in. thick, very little "ross" (1/4 in.); smoothish No. 38. At 15 ft. 1 5/8 in. thick. Rather deeply fissured. Ross as in previous no. No. 39. At 31 ft. 1 3/8 in. thick. Bark white, fissured, in two previous nos. reddish brown No. 40. At 45 ft. 3/4 in. thick. White, slightly fissured. No. 41. At 60 ft. 1/2 in. thick. White and smooth. No. 42. At 66 ft. 5/16 in thick. White and smooth. No. 43. At 74 ft. 3/16 in. thick. White and smooth No. 44. At 78 ft. 1/8 in. thick. White and smooth. |
10_81 June 18, 1903 No. 45. At 84 ft. 1/16 in. thick. White and smooth. Tree 96 ft. high. All samples taken from one side of the tree -- the north side. Basal samples appear to be bark of medium richness. Nos. 43-45. look like Alder bark. No. 41. might pass for Alder " Nos. 37-40 have much moss, all above have lichens Nos. 37, 38 & 39 look red in section, the remaining nos. have less color or are yellowish. |
