Melburne to Comptche [Mendocino Co]

- A. McDonald, Comptche House, says second-growth redwood trees from stumps of trees cut 35 years ago by Albion Lumber Co. have been made into ties by him, 6 to 8 ties to a tree and all sapwood cut away. The Albion Lumber Co. has sold its railroad (18 miles of track) to the Santa Fe people. Their people are buying up all the Redwood lands that they can at _10.00, _15.00 and _20.00 per acre. Some people will not sell even at the higher price, believing in a still further advance.
