[The combination Jania micrarthrodia var. crassa (Lamouroux) Areschoug 1852, 555 was listed in synonymy with J. crassa by Johansen in Abbott & Hollenberg, but Areschoug made no such combination, merely citing under Jania micrarthrodia the description "[delta]. fronde crassiori, ramis subarcuatis," ... with reference to Jania crassa]
