Notes | S side of Highway S-6. Herb.In shallow pools among metavolcanic rocks; with Azolla filiculoides, Paspalum distichum, and Pluchea purpurascens.[With Wolffia columbiana Karst. and Lemna minor L.] *Note: I have also collected Lemna gibba L. in the San Dieguito River and Lake Hodges. In all collections of Lemna gibba most of the fronds appeared to be distinctly gibbous with large air spaces. They also had a very asymmetrical dorsal outline, particularly the apical portion. The larger species of Lemna in this collection appears to be Lemna minor because they do not have the typical characters of Lemna gibba. It seems doubtful that they would all be nongibbous Lemna gibba. I have not seen any evidence of Lemna turionifera in this collection, but this area is certainly within its range. The very small species of Lemna in this collection is mostly Lemna minuscula.; |
